Bengaluru: If everything goes as per the plan, then the BMTC will become the first public sector transport corporation to induct electric buses into its fleet. The corporation has floated a tender to procure 90 such buses on a contract basis.
BMTC Director C Shikha confirmed that a tender has been floated in this regard.
As per the plan, these non-a/c buses, with 35 seats will be used to provide metro feeder service. Bengaluru Smart City Private Limited will give Rs.50 crores for this procurement while the rest of the money will be borne by the corporation itself.
“These buses will be single door buses. They will be operated by a single crew. The tender is floated for 10 years. The maintenance responsibility will be of the company which will provide the buses,” explained sources in the BMTC.
These buses will be used to provide last-mile connectivity in a 10-15 kilometer radius from any metro stations.
