Bengaluru: As a first-time initiative under any public road transport undertaking in the country, 1,000 BMTC buses will be fitted with CCTVs. The BMTC management decided to install the CCTVs under the Nirbhaya fund of the Union government.
According to BMTC sources, the corporation had recently floated tenders for this project, which is estimated to cost Rs 27 crores.
N V Prasad of the BMTC confirmed that the project has been taken up under the Nirbhaya scheme.
According to sources privy to the developments, a total of three CCTVs will be installed in each bus. Two cameras inside the bus and another outside the bus, facing the doors.
“CCTV footage will be stored for 15 days. Real-time monitoring technology will also be adopted,” explained authorities.
Meanwhile, the BMTC has also decided to bring 38 BMTC bus terminals including the Majestic bus terminal, under CCTV surveillance.
