Bengaluru: Long journeys by the air-conditioned Vajra bus will become costlier for passengers in the capital as the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has increased the ticket fare by 16.89 %. The revised rate will be on effect from July 1 (today).
From 7th stage to 25th stage ticket fare is increased duly by 3.45% to 26% and the average ticket fare hike is 16.89%. It will affect the passengers who travel in AC buses to far away places within the city.
It may be recalled that the BMTC Vajra bus fare was cut down by 5% to 37%, in January 2018 as a New Year gift.
Loss by concession
The BMTC earlier declared that the ticket fare concession will be for one month, but later extended the offer till June 30. As a result, the Volvo ticket revenue decreased by Rs. 2 lakh every day, which means the revenue came down from Rs. 27 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh every day.
In January, during the concession on trial-basis, the Corporation declared that it would continue the offer only if passengers increase by 25 to 30%. However, in spite of extension of the offer, the number of passengers didn’t increase more than 15%, sources said.
