After relentless overnight rains, parts of Bengaluru turned into virtual waterways, with boats spotted navigating waterlogged streets. The downpour caused severe waterlogging, leaving residents stranded and daily life at a standstill. Areas of the city experienced knee-deep water, leading local authorities to initiate damage assessments and rescue operations. The service road near Kogilu Junction toward the Indian Air Force (IAF) base was shut for rescue efforts, as announced by the Northeast Bengaluru traffic police ACP.
Weather reports indicated significant rainfall, with Bengaluru Rural recording 176.5mm and Bengaluru Urban seeing 157mm by 8:30 AM. Tragically, the rains claimed their first victim of the season when a 56-year-old woman, Mallika, lost her life while navigating potholes in the Sarjapur area. The accident occurred when she and her husband slowed down on their scooter to avoid the dangerous road conditions, leading to a collision with a mini-truck.
Frustrated citizens turned to social media to vent their anger at the authorities, blaming poor infrastructure and inadequate flood management. The rain also caused disruptions at the Bengaluru airport, with over 20 flights delayed and several diverted, marking the second time within a week that schools were closed due to the extreme weather.
