Bengaluru: Aircraft major Boeing said it has added a new facility to its India Engineering and Technology Center in Bengaluru.

The second phase of expansion nearly doubles its facility while the number of engineers – around 350 now – will also double by the end of 2017, the company said on Friday. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha inaugurated the new facility.

Boeing said the new set-up would focus on data analytics, Internet of Things, avionics, aerospace design, manufacturing, testing and research to support its products and systems in India and the world. The centre includes research laboratories to support next-generation innovations in aerospace.

The engineering centre, which was opened in January this year, is one of the company’s six such outside the U.S. Recently, Boeing partnered with the civil aviation ministry and Air India Engineering Services to develop an Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Accelerated Apprenticeship Program.
