A 12-year-old boy was allegedly attacked and bitten by a pet Rottweiler in Bengaluru‘s Mahadevapura area, prompting police to register a case against the dog’s owner and his family members for alleged negligence and criminal intimidation.
The incident occurred in Maheshwari Nagar and has raised concerns among residents about pet safety and responsible ownership in residential neighbourhoods.
Dog allegedly attacked boy on bicycle
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Vipin V., an ex-serviceman, alleged that his neighbour regularly allowed his pet Rottweiler to move around without a muzzle or adequate restraint.
The incident reportedly took place around 2.30 pm on June 13 when Vipin’s son was riding his bicycle on the street.
Police said the dog allegedly ran out through the house gate and bit the boy on his right hip, causing injuries.
The child was subsequently provided medical attention.
Family allegedly threatened complainant
Following the incident, Vipin approached the dog’s owner, identified as Shyam, and his family seeking an explanation.
According to the complaint, Shyam and his wife Vijayalakshmi claimed that the child might have provoked the animal before the attack.
The complainant further alleged that the family threatened him with consequences if he approached the police regarding the incident.
Based on these allegations, police registered a case against the owner and family members.
Investigation underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack and examine whether negligence contributed to the incident.
The case has once again highlighted concerns regarding pet management in residential areas and the importance of ensuring that potentially dangerous animals are properly restrained in public spaces.
Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
