Following a week of intense downpours that disrupted daily life across Bengaluru, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another stretch of consistent rainfall until May 31. Overcast skies and intermittent showers — ranging from drizzles to heavy rain — are expected to blanket the city through the week, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared.

Beginning May 26, Bengaluru will witness light rainfall and cooler temperatures between 20°C and 27°C. As the week progresses, more intense rain is likely, particularly around midweek.

Rain Forecast Snapshot:

  • May 26–27: Light showers; temperatures from 20°C to 27°C

  • May 28–29: Heavy rain expected; temperatures dropping to 19°C–25°C

  • May 30–31: Persistent rainfall with highs around 26°C

  • Umbrellas, raincoats, and a watchful eye on weather updates will be essential for commuters and residents.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued weather alerts for various districts in Karnataka:

    • Red Alert: Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru – these regions face high risk of flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.

  • Yellow Alert: Mysuru, Hassan, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag – moderate to heavy rainfall expected.

  • Tragedy struck Bengaluru as two individuals — a 63-year-old man and a 12-year-old child — lost their lives due to electrocution while trying to pump out floodwater from their apartment. A short circuit triggered by a motorised pump led to the fatal accident.

As monsoon-like weather intensifies, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow safety advisories.
