Bengaluru: For the first time in decades, the Brahmins, who are considered as the upper caste in the society will get caste and income certificates by the revenue department.
This is expected to help poor families from the Brahmin community to apply for government schemes.
This decision has been taken as part of implementation of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in the educational institutions.
This is also expected to help the families to apply for the various subsidy schemes implemented by both state and central governments.
It can be recalled that when HD Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister, he launched Brahim Development Board as part of wooing this community, which is considered as loyal to the JDS.
The State Brahmin Development Board had demanded the government to issue such caste and income certificates to the Brahmins as well.
