Brazilian man pulls off daring Rs 3.3 lakh watch theft at Bengaluru airport
In a dramatic heist, a 34-year-old Brazilian national allegedly stole two luxury wristwatches worth Rs 3.3 lakh from the duty-free store Ethos Summit at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) before flying back to Brazil.
The incident occurred on January 4 at Terminal 2. Ravi Gama De Sa Ravi, the accused, reportedly charmed the staff, purchasing four watches worth Rs 8 lakh and claiming to be a memorable customer. While interacting with employee Ilayaraja, Ravi discreetly pocketed two Frederique Constant watches—one worth Rs 94,500 and the other Rs 2.4 lakh—under the pretext of inspecting his passport and boarding pass.
Ravi left the store around 2:30 AM, dropping a cinematic line: “You will never forget me.” The staff discovered the theft two days later during stock checks and confirmed it through CCTV footage.
Police stated that Ravi’s passport number is GJ105516, and he flew out of Bengaluru immediately after the incident. Though a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 305 (theft in dwelling or specific premises) has been registered, authorities admitted that legal action against Ravi is limited since he has returned to Brazil.
“If he re-enters Bengaluru in the future, we can proceed against him,” an officer said, adding that efforts are ongoing to trace his visa details.
