“Brewery Robbery Raises Alarms, But Bengaluru Bars Say ‘No Need for Extra Security’”
Following a robbery at a Malleswaram brewery, several pub and bar owners across Bengaluru have responded by insisting that their current security systems are sufficient, despite the unsettling incident.
Ajit Rai, who manages a craft kitchen and bar in JP Nagar, told Deccan Herald that they maintain security with two guards covering morning and night shifts. “We hire through private agencies, and police patrols happen frequently. We’re managing cash internally and aren’t planning further upgrades,” he said confidently.
In Kalyan Nagar, a manager of a renowned brewery chain shared details of a more layered setup: 24/7 security with three guards, and 35 CCTV cameras covering the entire property. “The surveillance meets police guidelines,” the owner added. However, he expressed concern about internal threats. “Most crimes happen with inside help. Staff members who understand the system sometimes disable or redirect cameras,” he revealed.
A brewery owner in Koramangala highlighted another protective measure — an in-built alarm system. “It took significant investment, but it instantly alerts in case of a break-in,” he said.
Despite sophisticated systems and confident claims, insider involvement remains a recurring concern — one technology alone may not solve.
