In an extraordinary feat, two brothers from Thubarahalli Palya, East Bengaluru, are relocating their two-storey house by 100 feet instead of demolishing it. Their mission stems from a desire to honor their late father’s memory while addressing persistent flooding issues.
Y Devaraj and Y Vasu, both real estate professionals in their 50s, have long struggled with waterlogging due to Thubarahalli Lake’s overflow and poor drainage. Determined to preserve their father’s legacy and respect their mother’s emotional bond with the house, they chose to shift the structure to a nearby plot.
The relocation, which began Wednesday, is expected to take 25 days and cost ₹15 lakh, including restoration. Their mother, Shanthamma, was deeply moved by their decision, as the home holds decades of cherished family memories.
Shri Ram Building Lifting, led by Atham Ram and Sons, is executing the move using 200 iron jacks, 125 iron rollers, and seven primary jacks. The structure has already been shifted 15 feet, with careful precision ensuring no damage to doors, windows, or walls.
Over the next month, the house will reach its new foundation, standing as a symbol of the brothers’ dedication to family and heritage.
