Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, on Tuesday, January 7, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing flood relief funds for the state.
It can be recalled that the Central Government had, on Monday, announced flood relief funds for seven states. Karnataka was allocated an additional sum of Rs 189.85, in contrast to the Rs 50,000 crores requested by the Chief Minister. He had made a public appeal about the same in the presence of the PM during the latter’s visit to Tumakuru on January 2.
As much as Rs 669.85 crores was allocated to Karnataka under the National Disaster Response Fund.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, CM BSY wrote on his personal handle, “Thanking the Central Government for having released additional funds to the state of Karnataka for flood relief. Restoration and fund disbursement will now be sped up. #KarnatakaFloodRelief @narendramodi.”

However, some reports state that BSY has said that the funds sanctioned by the Centre are not sufficient. He has, however, expressed his confidence that the Centre would release more funds for the relief work.
It can be recalled that in 2019, 22 districts of Karnataka were devastated by heavy rains and floods. More than 80 people died and close to four lakh homes were destroyed or damaged. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre stated that, between August 3 and 10, the state received 279% more rainfall than normal.
