Bengaluru: BS Yeddyurappa, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) candidate for the post of Chief Minister, will be sharing the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally. The rally will be held as part of the Prime Minister’s campaign tour in the state which is scheduled to begin on May 1.
BSY will be sharing the stage with the PM at only one rally and has been asked to plan out his own campaign for the pre-election period, severally.
Sources say that BJP national president Amit Shah met with BSY on Friday and informed him about the same. Confirming the news, BSY told reporters that he was asked to formulate a separate campaign plan for himself, adding that a target was set for him at five rallies a day- one rally in one Assembly constituency – till May 10.
Rumors are aflutter that in the event of a hung Assembly, the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) might join forces and this would slim BSY’s chances at becoming the Chief Minister. Rumors about the BJP’s intentions to ditch BSY after the elections, grew stronger after his son, BY Vijayendra was denied a ticket at the last minute.
By making BSY share the stage with the Prime Minister at at least one rally, the BJP’s hope is that these rumours will not affect the elections and that BSY’s supporters would vote for the BJP.
