Bengaluru: On Saturday evening, a part of an under-construction building in north Bengaluru’s Peenya collapsed, tragically killing two workers and grievously injuring another. The incident occurred on the fourth floor of the five-story building near NTTF Circle, while labourers were engaged in centering work.
Identities of Victims
The deceased have been identified as Veeresh, 35, from Gulbarga, and Imam Sheik, 28, from Yadgir. Prakash, 55, from Kalaburagi, was critically injured and has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in critical condition.
Details of the Collapse
According to the police, the roof collapsed suddenly during the centering work, providing the workers no time to escape. Three workers were trapped under the debris. One of them died instantly, and another succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. One worker managed a narrow escape.
Investigation and Safety Concerns
The site has been cordoned off by the police as they investigate the cause of the collapse. Preliminary findings suggest that inadequate safety measures might have contributed to the tragedy. The police are consulting experts to determine the precise cause of the incident.
An FIR has been filed by the Peenya police. They are actively searching for the building’s owner and the site manager in connection with the incident.
