Bengaluru: A cab driver was found hanging at his residence at Benniganahalli near Byappanahalli.
The police said the deceased recorded a video of himself on his mobile phone advising his friends not to get into a debt trap. After ending the video, the driver hanged himself in his house on Tuesday, around 8 p.m., according to the police.
The police have identified the deceased as Anil, 27. In the recording, he blamed his debt and bank officials for his decision to end his life. He was unable to pay back a housing loan.
The incident came to light when his father went into his room to call him for dinner. The police found two videos on his mobile phone in which he has blamed the debt trap he was caught in. “Friends, I advise you to never go to a bank for a loan. They are those who live on others’ money,” he said in a video, apart from abusing bank officials and politicians.
Anil’s father, Rajanna, had taken a housing loan of Rs. 4 lakh from a nationalised bank eight years ago, for which Anil was paying an EMI of Rs. 6,800. However, he was not able to pay the EMI for the last two months and bank officials turned up at his house on Monday. They issued a notice and allegedly threatened to auction the house.
