In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, a cab driver was deceived and robbed by a woman who had earlier approached him during a trip to Karwar. The woman and her male associate locked the driver in a hotel bathroom before fleeing with his car and phone.

Ananth Kumar, 39, a resident of HMT Layout, was waiting for passengers in Karwar when a woman in her 20s struck up a casual conversation. She soon claimed she needed his driving services for a Bengaluru–Mysuru tour. The two exchanged numbers and stayed in touch through WhatsApp calls.

On May 6, 2023, the woman informed Ananth that she would be arriving in Bengaluru the next day and requested him to arrange a hotel room. Though Ananth was in Hubballi, he agreed to assist her upon returning. Due to unfamiliarity with hotels near Majestic, he reserved a room at PV Residency in Sidedahalli using her Aadhaar details.

He picked her up from near Eight Mile on Tumakuru Road and drove her to the hotel. While he waited in the parking area, the woman asked him to use the washroom to freshen up. Once inside, she locked the bathroom from outside, took his phone and car keys, and escaped with her accomplice in his Hyundai Accent.

Hotel staff eventually heard Ananth’s cries and rescued him. The pair reportedly drove through Tumakuru and Hiriyur before vanishing. Unfortunately, the hotel’s CCTV had no footage. Police are actively investigating and suspect hidden motives behind the cabbie’s version of events.
