A social media post by Anand Nichani, Managing Director of Magniflex India, has stirred a conversation about hygiene practices at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. Nichani shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), expressing concern over the use of the same trays for both shoes and personal belongings at airport security. He urged the airport to mandate separate trays for shoes, stating, “The same trays that carry our muddy shoes are used for our personal items at airport security! This is NOT okay! @BLRAirport, it’s time to make dedicated trays for shoes mandatory for a cleaner & more pleasant experience for everyone!”
The post quickly garnered reactions, with many echoing his concerns. Ryna Peters commented, “Providing separate trays for items like shoes and other belongings is very basic. This is clearly a hygiene problem.” Another user, Deepal, described the situation as “horrific,” questioning why personal items should share trays with dirty shoes.
In response, the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL), which operates KIA, stated that passenger hygiene and experience are top priorities. BIAL clarified that dedicated shoe trays are available adjacent to all X-ray machines. However, Nichani countered, noting that he didn’t find any such trays near his security belt, questioning why the practice isn’t mandatory.
