Car Catches Fire on Hebbal Flyover, Disrupting Traffic in Bengaluru
On Friday evening, a car caught fire on the Hebbal flyover in northern Bengaluru, causing significant disruption to traffic heading towards Kempegowda International Airport. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The fire was first reported at 7:56 pm, and a fire tender was promptly dispatched from the Hebbal fire station to the scene. Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory at 8:11 pm via X (formerly Twitter), alerting commuters to slow-moving traffic. The vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, was located in the extreme right lane heading towards the airport.
According to a Kodigehalli police officer, the driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine and quickly exited the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. The officer mentioned that the driver suspects the fire may have been caused by a technical issue, though experts will investigate further on Saturday. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed.
The fire caused a temporary halt in traffic, with two lanes of the flyover closed to allow the fire tender access to the scene. Traffic was slow-moving but gradually cleared as the flames were extinguished.
