Bengaluru: The Jayanagar police have apprehended two officers from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and an auto-rickshaw driver on Friday for allegedly demanding and seizing ₹4 lakh from a businessman earlier this month.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Sageer Ahmed, who is currently serving in the CCB, former head constable Yatheesh, who had been suspended earlier, and an auto driver named Sameer.

According to the police, the complaint was lodged by real estate agent Nagarjun Ganesh on Thursday. On January 5, during the evening, the two officers intercepted his vehicle near Jayanagar 5th Block. At that moment, he had ₹14.5 lakh in cash with him.

Pretending to be investigating a drug-related case, Ahmed and Yatheesh presented their police credentials, accused the businessman of transporting narcotics, and forcefully entered his car. Under the pretense of conducting an inspection, they pressured him into submission by threatening to frame him in a criminal case. Spotting a bag with ₹4 lakh inside, they took the cash and hurriedly left after issuing severe warnings.

Following an examination of CCTV recordings and technical evidence, the authorities tracked down and detained the officers. Investigators suspect the auto driver acted as an informer, tipping off the CCB personnel about the large sum of money. Further questioning of the accused is underway.
