Bengaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police (Anti-Narcotics Wing) have arrested two persons accused of importing drugs through the ‘Dark Web’ from the Netherlands and selling it in the city. They have also seized materials worth Rs 10 lakhs from the accused.
The CCB Police, in its press statement on Tuesday, December 24, stated that Tushar Jain (20) and Saquib Khan (21), both residents of the city, pursuing their academics in Jain College, were importing drugs from ‘Dream Market’ using ‘Tor’ (a browser used to surf the dark web).
CCB officials have informed that the accused had dropped out of college and gotten into illegal money-making schemes. They had cultivated a habit of making money through the ‘dark web’ (encrypted online content) and ‘Bitcoin’. The duo was dealing with their foreign counterparts using the same method.
The investigation reports have revealed that they imported drugs from the Netherlands by paying for them with Bitcoins.
When the CCB (Narcotics Cell) got the credible information, they conducted a raid on a warehouse located on Tannery Road, which falls under D J Halli Police Station limits, where accused Tushar Jain was caught with the drugs in his possession.
The police have seized 80 grams of MDMA, 43 LSD strips, 150 ecstasy tablets of different colours, two mobile phones, one electronic weighing machine, drugs purity check kit, and Rs 26,000 in cash from the accused.
CCB sleuths have informed that the materials seized were worth approximately Rs 10 lakhs.
