Bengaluru: The India Handmade Collective in association with Mission Samriddhi, a social impact enterprise, is conducting its first physical exhibition at Bengaluru International Centre today, January 30, to coincide with Gandhi’s death anniversary.
The exhibition called the S.A.L.T (Sustain-Act-Live-Transform) puts on display a myriad of indigenous brands with their products that celebrate the artisans whose handmade creations form a compelling narrative. This will be paired with food and entertainment.
This initiative aims to help and encourage the indigenous weavers, spinners and ethical small textile producers to continue their work in this space and make their ends meet sustainably, by giving their business a boost through this common platform.
“We wish to sensitize the community on the importance of supporting the local economy,” said Mr Ananthoo, coordinator of the event. “If the people of our society buy more of these handmade clothes which leaves a low carbon footprint, it will benefit the rural livelihood also,” he added.
“When the pandemic had struck, these artisans and weavers were not able to sell the products but still they kept on producing materials and through this exhibition, we wish to help them sell their goods,” Said Ananthoo.
S.A.L.T. Stories will feature a number of brands such as Blue Lotus, Gandhigram, Janapada Seva Trust, Kaskom, Magan, MGGSS, Soot, Nature Alley, and Tula. With well-wishers like Prasad Bidappa, the fashion stylist and choreographer, Deepti Sudhindra, the jewelry stylist, renowned actor and dancer, Vasu Dixit, the singer, actor and director, and Suhasini Koulagi, the renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, gracing the event with their performances, S.A.L.T. Stories is a must for art and design aficionados.
