Bengaluru: The Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for entry into professional education courses will begin tomorrow, i.e, April 18.

On Wednesday, the first day, candidates will have to write the biology and mathematics papers and they will have to appear for the physics and chemistry papers on Thursday. The Kannada language test will be conducted on Friday for the candidates from outside the state. For the first time, the question papers will be printed both in Kannada and English.

In 2017, CET was held for admission to AYUSH courses but this year, the applications were accepted only for engineering, agriculture and pharma courses. “For medical and dental courses, the state has agreed to go with the NEET. From this year, even AYUSH courses will be under NEET. The CET will be only for engineering, agriculture and pharmacy courses”, said a KEA official.

In the state, there will be 430 examination centres, including 86 centres in Bengaluru. A total of 1,00,071 boys and 98,568 girls will write the examination. The exam is the gateway for government and government-quota seats in engineering, farm sciences, B Pharma and D Pharma courses, among others, in colleges in the state.

What should students take to the exam hall?

Along with the CET hall ticket, students should carry any valuable ID card (College ID/second PU hall ticket/bus pass/driving license/passport/Aadhar card/PAN card). Blue or black ink pens should be carried.

Note: The students will be provided with pre-printed OMR sheets with student name, serial number, question paper number etc. Students should make sure that the information in hall ticket and answer sheet are same. In the same way, they should be sure that code number in question paper and OMR answer sheet are same.

Security Arrangements

The examination will be held under the direct supervision of respective deputy commissioners. For every examination centre, assistant commissioner-level officers have been appointed as vigilantes. Additional security has been provided to the godowns of deputy commissioners, said KEA.

There will be 430 examination observers, 860 special vigilance squad members, 430 question paper guards and 12440 room supervisors will take care of the examination.

There has been a 10 percent increase in the number of applications for the CET this time. According to the KEA, this year, there are 1.98 lakh applications compared to last year’s 1.79 lakh.
