Bengaluru: Two bike-borne men snatched a gold chain weighing 70 gram from the wife of a police inspector while the officer made a futile attempt to chase and nab them, in HMT Layout in Peenya on Monday morning.

The Peenya police have identified the victim as Gangamma, wife of Kenche Gowda, inspector attached with police headquarters and a resident of HMT Layout.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the inspector’s residence.

Two bike-borne men reached Kenche Gowda’s residence.

The pillion rider got down and walked towards Gangamma, who was entering the house after dumping garbage outside her house around 7.30 a.m. The accused pulled the chain. The victim, who tried to resist, was dragged for a few yards.

The accused then made away with the chain. Hearing her scream, Kenche Gowda, who was inside the house, chased the bikers for a few meters, but in vain. He then filed a complaint with the Peenya police, who have taken the CCTV footage for further investigation.

In another incident, two bike-borne men snatched a gold chain weighing 55 gram from Sudhamani, a home-maker, at Bridavana Layout near Bagalagunte around 7 a.m. The Bagalagunte police said the miscreant snatched Sudhamani’s chain when she was drawing a rangoli in front of her house.

The police suspect both crimes were committed by the same gang. Patrolling has been intensified in the city following the incidents.
