Bengaluru: A case of child marriage has been reported from the ‘Silicon City’ on Sunday, February 23.

According to reports, a 19-year-old girl was married to a 16-year-old boy.

As the case was brought to the notice of the Women and Child Welfare Department, they immediately rushed to the spot and placed the boy in a bal mandir.

Police sources said that the parents of the boy themselves arranged the marriage. The Women and Child Welfare Department officials found that the boy had been married and rescued him.

The police said that the boy and his family had come from Assam and had settled in the city 15 years ago. The 19-year-old girl, on the other hand, is an orphan. The girl, who was all alone, was introduced to the boy by his parents.

“Even though the parents knew that child marriage is illegal, they used the innocence of the boy and made him marry the girl. We have taken the boy’s parents into custody and are interrogating them,” they said.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the case is reported from the Puttenahalli Police Station limits.
