Chitradurga: The officials should be very careful while updating the electoral rolls in Chitradurga District, instructed District in-charge Secretary Dr. P. C. Jaffer.

He was speaking at a review meeting on revision of electoral rolls held at the Zilla Panchayat Office on Friday November 25. “We are on the verge of Assembly elections. Therefore, the revision of electoral rolls will be monitored by all. This important responsibility cannot be placed on the Village Accountants and Revenue Inspectors. He cautioned them to be aware that in case of a problem, the responsibility will have to be borne by the Tahsildar.”

“While deleting the name from the voters’ list, it is mandatory to check whether all the rules have been followed, and whether the guidelines have been followed. Booth-level officers should not remove the list of deletions as soon as they are given, each of which must have documents. He said that a decision should be taken after re-examining whether the voters are present at the place or in the constituency or not. During the revision of electoral rolls, there will be opportunities to carry out processes such as addition, correction, relocation, etc. Candidates from different districts are likely to come and contest the elections. Therefore, the officials must strictly follow the guidelines of the Election Commission.
