Christ (Deemed University) kick starts its golden jubilee celebrations

Bengaluru: Christ (Deemed to be University) will be celebrating 50years of its existence on Wednesday. The college which was incepted in the year 1969 and has gone on to become the most sought-after college for humanities and MBA programmes among students, including outstation students will release a commemorative stamp to mark its golden jubilee.

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi will inaugurate the event on July 11 which will be graced by Mysuru Maharaja Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and his wife Trishika Kumari, who also happens to be an alumna of Christ college and Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy.

On July 21, a get-together of alumni association and teaching staff will be held and Anil D Sahasrabudhe, chairman of AICTE will be the chief guest on the occasion with Infosys Cofounder Nandan Nilekani, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda as the guests of honour

Speaking to reporters regarding the golden jubilee celebrations, said Fr Abraham VM, pro vice-chancellor of Christ University said that the celebration, with several planned programmes, will go on for a year. “The university is aspiring to a premier institute similar to the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. “Our focus is on promoting research and a research institute will be set up within the campus by next year,” he added.

Presently, the university has over 21,000 students in campus, including 600 foreign nationals from 60 plus countries. It offers 48 undergraduate, 48 postgraduate, 16 M Phil and 17 doctoral programmes. The University received NAAC accreditation in 1998, A+ accreditations in 2005 and 2016 and in 2008, it was declared a deemed to be university by MHRD.
