Church Street: Bengaluru’s Photography Paradise
Church Street, a long-standing favorite in Bengaluru, has found renewed fame with Instagram and influencer culture, becoming a go-to spot for pre-wedding and portfolio shoots. Its charm lies in its European aesthetic and vibrant backdrop, say photographers.
A Blend of Old and New
Vivek Mathew, an art photographer, highlights the juxtaposition of historic cafes like India Coffee House and chic modern restaurants. The stretch from the metro station to The Bookworm is particularly striking with colorful graffiti, adds freelance photographer Ratheesh Sundaram. The street’s gentle slope enhances the visual appeal, especially during early mornings when traffic is sparse.
Uncluttered and Upmarket
Architect Bijoy Ramachandran attributes Church Street’s unique appeal to its underground services, unlike the overhead wires seen elsewhere in the city. The clean and polished finishes contribute to its sophisticated vibe.
A Haven for Shoots
Photographer Abhiram Rajan appreciates the mix of old houses and trendy cafes, which double as pit stops for outfit changes during couple shoots. Professional photographers like Sharan Gokarna recall its popularity even before its 2018 makeover, emphasizing its timeless allure, particularly for nighttime portraits with stunning bokeh effects.
Artists Find Inspiration
The street’s allure extends beyond couples. Hindustani vocalist and Kathak dancer Ankita Kundu has shot multiple portfolios here, using early mornings to capture its serene beauty. In one shoot, she teamed up with Mohiniattam dancer Mou Mita, turning the iconic street into a stage.
With its vibrant palette and rich history, Church Street remains a quintessential part of Bengaluru’s cultural and visual identity.
