Bengaluru: A tragic incident was reported in east Bengaluru on Monday morning when a Class 12 student allegedly jumped to his death from the second floor of Clarence High School on Pottery Road, Richards Town. The deceased was identified as Aaryan Moses Vyas, a resident of HBR Layout.

According to the police, Aaryan’s father, Moses, who works in the revenue department, filed a complaint stating that his son had been upset over homework issues. Based on the complaint, Pulikeshinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death (UDR) and initiated an investigation.

Incident during morning assembly

The school management said the incident occurred during the morning assembly hours. Aaryan was immediately rushed to Santosh Hospital, and later shifted to Manipal Hospital for further treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement, Clarence High School expressed profound grief over the loss. “Aaryan was not only an exceptional student but also a gifted sportsperson who represented our school at the national level and took part in several international competitions. His enthusiasm, discipline, and cheerful spirit touched everyone who knew him,” the school said.

Counselling support for students

The school further added that it was offering counselling and emotional support to students and staff in the aftermath of the tragedy. “We understand this news may be deeply distressing. Counsellors will be available on campus to support students and staff as they process their emotions and grief. Parents who feel their children may need additional support are encouraged to reach out to the school counsellor,” the statement read.

Police probe underway

Police sources said that preliminary inquiries suggest the student may have been under academic stress. “We are verifying all angles, including the statement of classmates, teachers, and family members,” a senior police officer said.

The authorities are also expected to review CCTV footage from the school premises to determine the exact sequence of events. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the investigation is ongoing.

Helplines for emotional support

The incident has once again raised concerns over academic pressure and mental health among students. Experts have urged parents and schools to stay alert to signs of stress or anxiety in children and ensure timely intervention.
