Bengaluru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, on Friday, January 10, launched the mass marriage scheme, “Saptapadi, by releasing a logo and handbill at the Vidhana Soudha.
Speaking to the media after launching the scheme, the CM said, “We have launched the Saptapadi scheme for the benefit of the poor. Many families struggle to conduct marriages and are burdened by debt after conducting marriages.
“We have planned to conduct mass marriages in at least three temples in each district that are managed by the Muzrai department,” he added.
Thanking BSY, MLC and Muzrai minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, who was present at the launch, along with members from the Muzrai department, said, “We came up with this concept as we didn’t want families to struggle to conduct marriages.”
He then announced that the department plans to give gold chains weighing 8 gms, new clothes and Rs 10,000 for marriage expenses, to the brides.
Muzrai department commissioner Rohini Sinduri, astrologer Anand Guruji and others were also present.
