CM gives nod for a separate sand mining policy for DK

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured of a delegation from Dakshina Kannada (DK) led by District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai of framing a separate policy on sand mining considering the sensitivities of the area.

The policy will be implemented soon after the discussion with the leaders, the CM assured a delegation which met him in Bengaluru on March 7.

Highlighting complaints from the public at one end and pressure on the requirement of sand for construction at the other in Dakshina Kannada, Minister Rai requested the Chief Minister to frame a separate policy for DK on sand mining.

Conceding to the demand, the CM said, “There should not be any problems in the supply of sand, considering the focus of the state government on housing” and assured on the implementation of the policy soon.

The delegation conveyed to the CM on burning issues of the district like pending Pashima Vahini project to meet the drinking water needs, 9/11 documentation issues of revenue department and permission for bore wells in Puttur region considering the drought like situation there.

The chief minister assured the delegation of addressing the problems in the future.

DK Zilla Panchayat members Chandra Prakash Shetty, Shahul Hameed, Shekar Kukkedy, P P Verghese, Dharanendra Kumar, Bantwal APMC President Padmanabha Rai, party leaders Kanachur Monu, Prithviraj, Harish Kumar, Dr. Raghu, Pius Rodrigues, Suresh Kotian, Asif Mulky, Iqbal, Srinivas Kini, K P Thomas and Ashraf were part of the delegation.
