CM to officials: Acquire land for rail coach factory in two-and-half months

Bengaluru: If all goes well, the much-delayed rail coach factory project at Srinivasapuur taluk in Kolar district is expected to become a reality in a few years. The state government on Tuesday made a commitment to provide the required land for the project within next two and half months.Reviewing the progress of the project on Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the officials to complete the land acquisition process within two-and-half months. “The land should be handed over the Railways without any delay,” the chief minister said.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries R V Deshpande, Kolar district in-charge minister K Ramesh Kumar and officials from various departments attended the review meeting.

It may be recalled the project was announced in the 2013 Railway budget. The state government has to provide required land for the project free of cost. The project needs 1,123 acres of land. “The state government has to acquire about 250 acres from farmers and the remaining part comprises of government land,” Minister Ramesh Kumar said speaking to reporters after the meeting.
The rail coach factory was estimated to cost Rs 1,460 crore, which is now estimated to have escalated to about Rs 2,000 crore. “The state government would have to spend about Rs 250 crore for land acquisition,“ the minister said
