Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the new state flag with an emblem at his official residence “Krishna” on March 8.

The flag with a combination of yellow, white and red colours has an emblem at the centre.

The state government gave clearance to the flag based on the recommendations of the committee formed for the purpose. Many leading Kannada litterateurs, leaders of various Kannada organisations and few ministers were present during the unveiling ceremony.

The new flag with an emblem was designed by well-known eminent writer and scholar Hampa Nagarajaiah, who headed the committee. The state cabinet approved the design and is now awaiting clearance from the union government. On approval, Karnataka will become the first state in the country to have a flag of its own.

With CM unveiling the flag, the long pending dream of Kannadigas has been realised.
