Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday toured flood-affected areas and listened to residents’ woes. Siddaramaiah find the time to visit the rain-affected areas after the floods in parts of the city over past two weeks.

The chief minister directed civic officials to demolish three structures, mostly godowns built on a storm-water drain in Kumbaragundi, J.C. Road, that are said to have blocked the drain and resulted in flooding in the area. “These structures came up with permission from the BBMP 30 years ago. The CM has directed us to pay compensation and demolish them,” said BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad.

At HSR Layout, the chief minister had received complaints from residents about repeated flooding of the neighbourhood. Local MLA Sathish Reddy also demanded more funds for Bommanahalli constituency. The CM said that of the Rs. 300-crore package the Cabinet recently approved for works in flood-affected areas, Rs. 65 crore has been allocated to Bommanahalli alone.

Siddaramaiah also visited Shantinagar, Pai Layout in K.R. Puram, and Ramamurthy Nagar.

But the tour was cut short a stop before schedule as the bus he was travelling in broke down at the Shantinagar bus depot. The replacement bus also allegedly broke down in Ramamurthy Nagar. His visit to Kalkere was cancelled.
