Bengaluru: Mocking the B S Yediyurappa for his repeated statements that he will complete his term as Chief Minister of the state in the next two years and five months, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar said that the claim is in itself an indication that the former is facing some threat.

Pointing out that there was no need for the CM to make “such a statement”, Shivakumar, on Friday, told reporters, “What was the need for a Chief Minister to say that he will remain in the post for remaining two-and-half years? Did any of us question? Let him be there for two years or one year…,” Mr Shivakumar said as reported by PTI.

He added that BSY is trying to “pacify himself” by saying that he will remain in the same post as some leaders from his own party (BJP), including MLA Basanagouda Yatnal, have been saying that there will be a change in the post after January 15.

According to reports, it has been speculated that the BJP high command is considering a change in leadership in Karnataka in the coming days owing to BSY’s age (77). These reports have, however, been dismissed.

Meanwhile, DKShi expressed his satisfaction with the Congress party’s performance in the recently concluded gram panchayat elections, adding that he will be touring the state from January 5 to 18.
