Bengaluru: After missing Governor Vajubhai Vala’s second deadline, Speaker Ramesh Kumar adjourned the Assembly session to Monday, July 22, at 11 AM.
“No matter what you say, I cannot sit anymore,” said the Speaker before adjourning the session for the day.
It can be recalled that, after the Assembly session was adjourned yesterday without passing the vote of confidence motion, the Governor had directed Chief Minister Kumaraswamy to conduct the trust vote today at 1.30 PM. After this deadline was crossed, the Governor set a second deadline for 6 PM, which was also crossed.
As the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition government were successful in filibustering the Assembly session, the speaker was left with no choice but to adjourn the session.
“The BJP has said that they will co-operate even if the time is 12 AM. I don’t want to allow division of votes in a hurry or want to delay it,” the Speaker said.
“You put the blame in my court saying you said this time. You must come to my rescue,” the Speaker added.
Earlier, BJP state president addressed Speaker Ramesh Kumar saying, “We respect you Speaker sir. The Governor’s last letter said that the vote should be completed today. The people on our side will sit peacefully till late in the night no matter how long it takes.”
Meanwhile, the Congress moved the Supreme Court over the Governor’s “interference” in the conduct of the trust vote.
