Coastal Karnataka likely to receive heavy rain in next 24 hours: IMD

Bengaluru: Isolated parts of several districts of south interior Karnataka, few places over coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka are likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours owing to the cyclone Kyarr, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts will mostly receive rainfall, the IMD said in its bulletin.

As per a report by ANI, the weather forecasting agency added that the sea condition is “likely to be high to very high over the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours and phenomenal thereafter. It will be rough to very rough along and off north Karnataka coast during next 24 hours”.

The winds are expected to reach speeds from 40 to 50-kmph up to 60-kmph along and off the north Karnataka coast over the next 24 hours.

In isolated places of over south interior Karnataka, on October 28, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 30 to 40-kmph are likely to occur.

“On October 31, the isolated places over Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts of south interior Karnataka may receive heavy rainfall,” said the weather forecasting agency.

Considering these conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture out into the sea.
