Bengaluru: A massive crater at the Gubbalala Main Road-Pipeline Road junction in Uttarahalli, which posed a serious risk to motorists, has been swiftly addressed thanks to the combined efforts of a local resident, the Changemakers of Kanakapura Road (CMKR), and former corporator Hanumanthaiah.

The crater appeared after pipeline work by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). A concerned individual placed a broken bamboo sofa over it to prevent accidents, particularly at night in the poorly lit area.

CMKR, a consortium of over 80 residential groups, initially reported the issue via the Namma Bengaluru app, only to receive a dismissive response: “Not relevant.” Undeterred, the group contacted former BJP corporator Hanumanthaiah on Monday morning, sharing photos of the hazardous crater and the improvised sofa barrier.

Hanumanthaiah acted quickly, visiting the site with party workers and coordinating with the BWSSB to resolve the issue. “Heavy vehicles passing over the spot caused the damage. My team, along with BWSSB workers, ensured the crater was filled by evening,” he said.

A concrete slab has been laid and temporarily barricaded to allow the repair to settle properly. This collective effort highlights the power of community action in addressing urban challenges effectively.
