Company employees booked for duping builder of Rs 18 Lakh

Bengaluru: Three employees of a finance company here in Bengaluru were booked for allegedly cheating a Thane-based builder of Rs 18 Lakh. The accused are identified as Rajan, Ulhas Nair and Joseph Mathew and of the three Joseph used to introduce himself as the chairman of J M Group.

Police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said that the trio duped the builder on the pretext that he would be financing a housing project.

The police have also reported that during the course of their interaction, the accused had promised the complainant that they would finance his project and that he would not need to pay any extra fees and charges during his reimbursement.

Narkar gave out the details regarding the deal that was signed between the two saying that during the signing, they had demanded Rs 55 Lakh, but as he was not able to produce such an amount, he sought a reduction to Rs 20 Lakh. They agreed to it and asked him to pay the amount.

The victim paid Rs 16 Lakh to them and an additional Rs 2.16 Lakh for stamp duty as per records.

The trio had ignored the legal notices posted to them. This had the builder worried and he was continuously trying to contact them. When he could not wait anymore, he travelled to the city and tried to meet them at their office but later he got to know that it was shifted. He tried to get in contact again.

After continued failures to get in touch with the trio he complained to Varak Nagar police. Based on his complaint, an FIR was filed against the three.

They were booked under Section 420 of the IPC and further investigations are underway.
