Competition for Legislative Council ticket continues in Congress

Bengaluru: The list of Congress aspirants vying for a membership in the Karnataka Legislative Council has been developing as the day for the biennial elections is approaching. Since 11 members of the council are completing their term on June 17, the election to fill these vacant seats will be held on June 11.

The Congress party, with the capacity of their MLAs can win 4 seats. The process of finalising the candidates is in its last stage and a list will be released after approval by the party seniors, said the Congress sources.

It is almost confirmed that serving MLC K Govindaraj will continue for another term, while the party is considering retaining the seat vacated by C M Ibrahim again with a Muslim candidate. So, there is a strong possibility that Ibrahim is likely to get another opportunity. Meanwhile, Nazeer Ahmed’s name is also being heard in party circles.

There is huge competition for the seat vacated by Hebbal MLA Byrathi Suresh. It is being demanded that after Suresh, opportunity should be given to Ramachandrappa, another leader from the same Kuruba community. Former chairman of the Legislative Assembly V R Sudarshan is also in the race.

Rani Sathish is an aspirant to the seat vacated by Motamma. However, it is to be seen if the party gives opportunity to Motamma, who was defeated in Mudigere Assembly constituency yet again or Rani Sathish who aspires to enter the Upper House.
