Bengaluru: State primary and secondary education minister S R Srinivas informed that the recognition for those ICSE and CBSE schools which will don’t teach Kannada as one of the subjects will be withdrawn.
Speaking to reporters in the city, he made it clear that ICSE and CBSE schools must introduce Kannada as either a second or third language and teach it to the students. “A similar rule has been implemented in all the states. We are also implementing it through an Act. Even the Supreme Court has upheld this legislation so there is no escape route,” he said.
S R Umashankar, principal secretary, primary and secondary education department said that there is no MHRD order for this. “We have issued an order and the schools must follow this else their recognition will be withdrawn,” he warned.
