Bengaluru: Independent candidate A Sumalatha, wife of former Congress leader MH Ambareesh has said that she was offered various deals including a Rajya Sabha seats in lieu of staying away from the Lok Sabha polls.
It is a known fact that Sumalatha’s decision to enter the politics, close on the heels of her husband’s death has caused a sense of discomfort in the coalition house as the JD(S) decided to field CM HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil from Mandya, marking his political entry.
“Contesting the polls was a difficult choice,” she said adding that she was under immense pressure.
“The Congress had promised me a ticket from any constituency from Bengaluru and assured me Rajya Sabha seat, or a Legislative Council seat and then a ministry if I decided not to contest this time,” said Sumalatha, whose popularity is growing.
Sumalatha, pointing at the debate that has been going on about her caste, said that her husband had never spoken ill about anybody in his long political career, just because he wanted to garner votes.
Justifying her allegations against CM Kumaraswamy that he is indulging in ‘crooked politics’, she said that she had submitted proof regarding the misuse of his official machinery for political gains. She said that the authorities should investigate her complaint regarding phone tapping and take care that it does not happen in the future.
She said she was offered unconditional support by BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa when she met him. Even before that the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha had offered their support, she said.
