Bengaluru: Condemning the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) move of taking former water resource minister D K Shivakumar into custody in connection with an alleged money laundering case, former home minister Ramalinga Reddy has called for a massive protest in Bengaluru on Wednesday, September 11.
Addressing the media during a press conference at Hotel Maurya, here on Tuesday, September 10, he said, “The Congress party has decided to stage a massive protest in the city condemning the unlawful arrest of D K Shivakumar. We’ll be joined by several organizations and Congress party workers. We have also called for a peaceful protest to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.”
“We have decided to hold the protest march from the National College till the Freedom Park. The reason for the protest is that the Centre has arrested DKShi with an alterior motive,” he added.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government of misusing their power, Reddy said, “The BJP has been misusing the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax departments after they came to power in the Centre. Sunil Sharma, a close associate of DKShi has accepted that the money found in his residence belonged to him. Even after this confession by Sunil Sharma, the ED officials are pressurizing DKShi to accept that it is his.”
