Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee headed by Former Minister D. K. Shivakumar is silently working on forming a rainbow coalition to return to power in the 2023 State Assembly election. The party started roping in the community leaders for this purpose.
According to the sources, Shivakumar is meeting the leaders from smaller communities like Brahmins, Banjara, fishermen, weavers, and so on separately to prepare a coalition that may help the party to win comfortable majority in the assembly election.
With Muslims and Christians solidly backing the party, the Congress is confident that Vokkaligas will support the party due to the Shivakumar factor. OBCs are likely to rally behind the party due to the influence of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. To ensure more votes, now party has decided to rope in smaller castes.
As these castes are not represented by BJP in the present dispense, the party is confident that it is not difficult to bring them back to the party fold.
“The smaller castes account for around 10% votes in the State. They are spread across the State. They decide the winning margin. Our idea is to bring them together under the party platform to ensure that party will be on a solid situation at the time of election,” said a Congress leader.
