Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the Congress will reveal its list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections within the next two to three days. He assured that the selection process has been devoid of any significant controversies and emphasized that the final nominees will be chosen based on inputs from the party’s local leaders.

Speaking to reporters in Karwar, Siddaramaiah stated, “The Congress list may also be released in the next two to three days. Tomorrow, the central election committee will convene, and the candidates for Karnataka will be finalized shortly thereafter.”

He elaborated, “The selection process has been smooth. We are considering input from various quarters including district in-charge Ministers, observers, MLAs, unsuccessful candidates, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members, block committee presidents, and district presidents.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D K Shivakumar, speaking in Hubballi, indicated that the finalization of the list would follow a meeting in the national capital on Thursday, under the leadership of AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge.

In the previous general elections in 2019, the BJP dominated the electoral landscape in Karnataka, securing 25 out of 28 seats, with an independent candidate supported by the party also emerging victorious. In contrast, the Congress and JD(S), in a coalition government at the time, managed to win only one seat each.

However, the political dynamics have shifted since then. The Congress achieved a resounding victory in the Assembly elections last year, signaling its renewed vigor and determination to perform well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. There has also been a notable change in alliances, with the JD(S) joining the BJP-led NDA in September the previous year.

Currently, discussions are underway between the Congress and the BJP regarding the distribution of seats for the elections. The Congress aims to demonstrate its enduring strength, particularly in South Karnataka, as it seeks to assert its relevance in the political arena.
