Consider conducting trust vote by end of day: Governor

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly session continues to labour on, with the Congress and JDS members filibustering the vote of confidence process. Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala intervened in the session and sent a message to Speaker Ramesh Kumar, requesting him to carry out the trust vote today.

In his message to the Assemby, as read out by the Speaker, the Governor directed the House to consider conducting the vote of confidence motion by the day’s end. “CM is expected to maintain confidence of the house at all times. I send a message to consider trust vote by the end of the day,” the message read.

Reportedly, the members of the BJP met with the Governor during the lunch hours and requested him to direct the Speaker to conduct the trust vote by the end of the day.

To the Governor’s message, Haliyal MLA and Revenue Minister R V Deshpande told Speaker Ramesh that there is no provision in the constitution for the Governor to issue this kind of directive to the Speaker.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who is also in-charge of the parliamentary affairs said that they have taken up the confidence vote today and there are some legal aspects that have been raised on the same.

He added that the motion is already under consideration and that the confidence vote will decide the future of the house. All the members have the right and the privilage to discuss this issue.

A list of MLAs names who want to speak on the trust vote has already been submiutted to the Speaker. As of now, the discussion on the trust vote has not yet begun.

Earlier, before the session was adjourned for lunch, the Congress and JDS MLAs had alleged that MLA Shrimanth Patil, who disappeared from a Bengaluru resort on Wednesday night, had been kidnapped by the BJP and taken to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, according to reports, MLA Patil was moved to St. George Hospital for further treatment.
