Bengaluru: S Manjunath, the 33-year-old life convict who nonchalantly walked out of the Parappana Agrahara jail in April, was nabbed on Saturday in his hometown Chitradurga. He has been brought back to the Parappana Agrahara jail.
The Chitradurga Rural police identified and nabbed him on Saturday evening. He was brought to Parappana Agrahara around 12.15 am on Sunday. Jail authorities will soon decide on whether to enhance security for Manjunath or not, sources said.
In April, Manjunath made his escape from the prison by donning civilian clothes and casually walking out. Before his escape, he had spent six-years in jail. He requested a meeting with senior officials at the administrative block of the jail saying he wanted to seek parole. Once he got there, he allegedly dumped his prison uniform, changed into civilian clothes and approached the second gate. When the guard questioned Manjunath, he allegedly said he had been on parole and had returned to seek an extension.
When the guards were distracted, Manjunath slipped out. Upon reaching the main gate, Manjunath stamped his hand with a visitor’s mark to mislead the authorities and walked out. Following his escape, four jail officers were suspended and a special police team was formed to nab him. However, what flummoxed the police is how he got access to civilian clothes and the rubber stamp.
