COIMBATORE: Salem police have arrested a couple from Bangalore in connection with the murder of a girl whose body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase along the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway in Sangagiri. The couple, both software professionals from Odisha, allegedly murdered the girl, suspected to be an orphan, after assaulting her for perceived faults in her work as a caretaker for their six-year-old son.
According to officials involved in the investigation, the victim was staying with the couple when the incident occurred. The couple reportedly used a chappati roller to inflict fatal injuries on the girl. Her nude body, wrapped in a polythene cover, was found in a suitcase discarded in a thicket on October 1.
Initial inquiries indicated that both the victim and the suspects were from North India, as evidenced by Hindi stickers found on the suitcase. The investigation has proven complex, involving the examination of multiple missing persons cases, tracking thousands of vehicles, and analyzing numerous mobile numbers before identifying the suspects.
Police are currently exploring further motives behind the brutal murder as the investigation continues.
