COVID-19 positive cases jumps to 41 in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The Department of Health and Family Welfare Sevices, Government of Karnataka, on Tuesday, March 24, announced that the number of coronavirus positive cases in Karnataka has risen to 41 after eight new cases were reported during the day. Of the eight, four are from Kerala and are being kept under observation in isolation in Mangaluru.

Of the 41 cases (including one death), 37 are in isolation at designated hospitals and three have been discharged.

As per the bulletin issued by the department, the patient details are as follows:

Patient 35 is a 40-year-old resident of the Uttara Kannada district. He has a history of travel to Dubai. He arrived in India on March 21. He has been isolated at a designated hospital in the Uttara Kannada district.

Patient 36 is a 65-year-old resident of the Uttara Kannada district. He has a history of travel to Dubai. He arrived in Mumbai on March 18 and travelled to Uttara Kannada by train. He has been isolated at a designated hospital in the Uttara Kannada district.

Patient 37 is a 56-year-old resident of the Chikkaballapura district. She is a relative and co-passenger of Patients 19 and 22. She has a history of travel to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. She arrived in Hyderabad on March 14. At present, she is in isolation at a designated hospital in Chikkaballapura.

Patient 38 is a 56-year-old resident of Bengaluru. She is a contact of Patient 13 and is isolated at a designated hospital in Bengaluru.

Patients 34, 39, 40 and 41 are from Kerala. They are being treated in Mangaluru.

The bulletin adds that six of the 41 COVID-19 cases reported from the state are transit passengers from Kerala, who landed in airports and are being treated in Karnataka.

Following the continuous rise of COVID-19 positive cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on March 24 night, announced a 21-day total lockdown in the country from midnight.

He said urged the people to practice social distancing and stay indoors to mitigate the spread of the disease.
