Bengaluru: Till Sunday night, in Karnataka, just 16 COVID-19 patients were in ICU and getting the treatment. But on Monday late night, the health bulletin issued by the state COVID-19 war room sent shockwaves as this number touched 56 taking the single day ICU admissions to 40. This sudden spurt has now caused a new headache for the government.

According to the COVID-19 war room data, the new ICU admission has patients from all age groups. The district-wise ICU admissions including Kalaburgi (18), Bengaluru (17), Bidar and Ballari (5 each), Dharwad (3), Dakshina Kannada and Vijayapura (2 each), one each patient in Mandya, Shivamogga, Davanagere, and Udupi are now being treated at the ICU.

According to the data among the new ICU admissions, 3 kids are below four years, and one is a 9-year-old boy. Data suggests that 14 people in ICU are below 40 years of age.

“All of them were in general ward till Sunday. They were shifted to ICU on Monday. This is the cause of worry,” explained sources in the state health department.
