Bengaluru: In a big shocker for working couples, the state government announced holiday for Pre KG, LKG and UKG classes in all the schools across the city fearing the spread of COVID19.

An announcement in this regard has been made by the Primary and Secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar through a tweet.

“Further to the advice received from the Health Commissioner, holidays have been declared for KG/UKG classes in Bengaluru north, south and rural districts,” tweeted the Minister tweeted.

Earlier, state Health, Family Welfare and Aayush Services Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey recommend the step, citing coronavirus positive cases in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

“It is requested to take steps for the closure of pre-kindergarten, LKG and UKG schools in BBMP and Bengaluru urban areas with immediate effect and till further orders to prevent the transmission of novel coronavirus in the community,” said Pandey.

This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of COVID 19 virus. Till now no COVID 19 positive cases have been reported in the state.

However, it was not yet clear for how long pre-primary classes were to be shut. As the news spread, thousands of working couples are in a dilemma as it is not possible to make an alternative arrangement at such short notice.

Shyamala Raj, a techie from Malleshwaram said, the government should behave in a sensible way. “They made an announcement past midnight. Where do we keep the little children when we have no one to take care of them at home? Even to search for good daycare we need time. He should have made this announcement well in advance,” she said.
